Implementation of on-line clinical documentation using Quadramed-CPR clinical desktops at the Elmhurst Hospital Center.

February 2009 NEGLEY, OTT & ASSOCIATES, INC's consulting team supported the implementation of an electronic on-line clinical documentation for inpatient care utilizing the Clinical Desktop on Quadramed-CPR by providers to document care and care plans at the Elmhurst Hospital Center.

With the support of NOA’s Donna Welsh, RT and Cynthia Herold, MT (ASCP) as the primary on-site consultants supporting this project, NOA provided product specific expertise and best-demonstrated-practice design support for building the database configuration in order to support workflow based applications involving the on-line chart at the Elmhurst Hospital Center , a member of the Queens Health Network and the New York Health and Hospitals Corporation. During the course of this project, the hospital project team and NOA built a unified desktop in collaboration with nursing, providers and select departments in the institution to allow an interdisciplinary look at the patient’s information. NOA trained hundreds of employees including physician providers, nurses and ancillary department personnel for this initiative and provided 24x7 support during the activation to insure that all users had a smooth transition to the new tool. The scope of this implementation included numerous acute care units which encompassed the Emergency Department, ICU, Step-Down and multiple traditional med/surg units. The go-live encompassed a large scope of clinical documentation which included all core documentation to support physicians and nursing.

In addition to on-line clinical documentation, NOA’s Herb Walls, Lewis McMaster, RN and Andrea Walker, RN, MSN also provided extensive training support for the end user personnel at the hospital prior to going live.

The deployment is another example of the commitment Elmhurst Hospital Center made to provide the best, current-generation IT solutions to clinicians in order to support best practices and is another significant accomplishment for the Queens Heath Network.

Congratulations to New York City Health and Hospital Corporation, Queens Health Network and NOA's project team for a successful deployment! This deployment is another example of how NYCHHC continues to demonstrate quality and excellence towards community health by using NOA for deployment of the Quadramed CPR integrated electronic health record.

About Negley, Ott & Associates, Inc.
NOA was formed in 1992 by IS professionals with a desire to provide hospital information system and clinical professionals with best demonstrated practices in conjunction with implementing clinical software systems that focus on patient care.  The issues, personalities, opportunities, challenges and solutions required by clinical system implementations require the ability to meld sensitivity to clinical processes with the realities of computing and patient care delivery.  To date, NOA has provided services to over 60 hospitals installing clinical systems using an approach that stresses both outcomes and knowledge transfer. Supporting so many users, both during and after their installation, gives NOA the opportunity to understand the issues that make clinical systems work, and those that don't.
