NOA customer site leverages inpatient nursing documentation using Quadramed-CPR™System during JCAHO inspection

March 2009 Negley, Ott & Associates, Inc's. consultants, Dar Sabatino, RN and Stacie Barrow completed supporting phase-1 development of inpatient nursing documentation on the Quadramed-CPR™ system. This was a multi-month project initiative and was the first phase of a three phase deployment plan involving inpatient nursing documentation. The scope of the project included all nursing units except OB and Psychiatry and required training of over 600 nursing personnel for the go live.

In March 2009 Coney Island Hospital also leveraged those same applications to demonstrate compliance with JCAHO standards involving interdisciplinary care. This is another successful deployment and utilization of applications designed and built by NOA in support of inpatient nursing documentation which included the following:

  • Interdisciplinary Assessments
  • Progress Notes
  • Care Plans
  • Pain Assessments
  • Pain Re Assessments

This project for nursing documentation followed the physician documentation initiatives which went live with the following physician documents in November 2007:

  • History & Physical
  • Progress Notes
  • Consults
  • Procedure Note
  • Discharge Summary

Coney Island Hospital is one of the facilities of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (NYCHHC). Dar Sabatino, RN and Stacie Barrow’s consultation efforts have been part of an ongoing team approach comprised of NOA and CIH personnel. As of January 2009 NOA’s Pelvia Woods, RN has also joined this team to augment ongoing deployment efforts.

The recent inpatient nursing documentation go-live event and subsequent JACHO inspection are additional significant accomplishments for Coney Island Hospital and represent continued achievements toward improvement in community health.

Congratulations to CIH’s CIO, Silvana DeSimone, Coney Island Hospital, Quadramed, NOA's Dar Sabatino, RN, and Stacie Barrow for the recent successful deployment. This deployment is an additional example of how NYCHHC continues to demonstrate quality and excellence towards community health by using the Quadramed CPR™ integrated electronic health record.

About Negley, Ott & Associates, Inc.

NOA was formed in 1992 by IS professionals with a desire to provide hospital information system and clinical professionals with best demonstrated practices in conjunction with implementing clinical software systems that focus on patient care.  The issues, personalities, opportunities, challenges and solutions required by clinical system implementations require the ability to meld sensitivity to clinical processes with the realities of computing and patient care delivery.  To date, NOA has provided services to over 60 hospitals installing clinical systems using an approach that stresses both outcomes and knowledge transfer. Supporting so many users, both during and after their installation, gives NOA the opportunity to understand the issues that make clinical systems work, and those that don't.
