NOA consultant provides product expertise support of Eclipsys Sunrise Knowledge-Based Charting™ in conjunction with Eclipsys Sunrise Critical Care™ at Catholic Medical Center

January 2008NOA’s Pelvia Woods, RN of NEGLEY, OTT & ASSOCIATES, INC. was previously selected to provide design expertise and support to during the design and development phase of implementing automated clinical documentation and Eclipsys Sunrise Knowledge-Based Charting at Catholic Medical Center (CMC), Manchester, NH.  In October 2007, CMC activated clinical documentation applications house-wide by deploying vital signs and I & O flow-sheets on all patient care areas.  Subsequent to completing the deployment of clinical documentation the hospital aggressively started the project for deployment of Eclipsys Sunrise Knowledge-Based Charting.

This deployment resulted in Catholic Medical Center becoming the first in the nation to implement Knowledge-Based Charting on version 2.0.  Within a record time period after installation, the inpatient units were being converted from paper to electronic documentation for the following disciplines:

  • Nursing

  • Therapies (PT, OT, SLP)

  • Nutrition

  • Social Work

  • Care Management

  • Respiratory Therapy

  • Pastoral Care

Catholic Medical Center, in addition to having multiple monitored/critical care areas, also has an inpatient Rehab Medical Unit and an Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.  Catholic Medical Center utilized a train-the-trainer approach by leveraging department and unit educators in training.  Prior to go-live, 100% of all users had completed training.  During implementation, 24-hour support for the user community was provided by a team of resources comprised of NOA (Pelvia Woods, RN), CPMRC, CMC Analysts, IT Technical Staff and CMC Super Users.  The intense level of support resulted in a quick and efficient conversion of all patient records to electronic documentation using Knowledge-Based Charting.  The activation was a huge success; according to NOA’s Pelvia Woods, RN, this was one of the best activations she has ever worked on.
