Implementation of automated medication administration with Quadramed-CPR
clinical desktops at the Queens Health Network |
|
September 2007: Negley, Ott & Associates,
Inc.'s
consulting team supported the implementation of automated
medication administration utilizing the Clinical Desktop on Quadramed-CPR
(formerly Misys-CPR) as the new mechanism used by providers to access
the MAR and document administration of medications at the
Queens Health Network.
With the support of NOA’s Kevin Rogers, RN, Donna Welsh, RT, Cynthia
Herold, MT (ASCP), and Dar Sabatino, R.N., NOA provided technical
product expertise by designing and building the database configuration
in order to support workflow based applications involving the on-line
MAR at the Queens Hospital Center, a
member of the Queens Health Network and the New York Health and
Hospitals Corporation. During the course of this project, the
hospital project team and NOA built a unified desktop in collaboration
with nursing and respiratory service areas in the institution to allow
providers a common look and feel regardless of the care venue. NOA
trained more than 300 providers from nursing and respiratory care for
this initiative and provided 24x7 support during the pilot unit(s)
activation to insure that all users had a smooth transition to the new
tool. The hospital’s provider staff (nurses and respiratory
therapists) from three of the pilot units all began using the new
clinical desktop design for MAR functionality on September 24, 2007
as part of a phased implementation over the course of a four-week
deployment period. Over the next three weeks, QHN and NOA’s
project team will continue implementing the automated MAR across the
remaining 16 patient care units and providing 24x7 support to ensure a
smooth transition.
This deployment is another example of the commitment this organization
makes to provide the best, current-generation IT solutions to clinicians
in order to support best practices and is another significant
accomplishment for the Queens Health Network.
Congratulations to New York City Health and Hospital Corporation, Queens
Health Network and NOA's project team for a successful deployment!
This deployment is another example of how NYCHHC continues to
demonstrate quality and excellence towards community health by using the
Quadramed CPR integrated electronic health record.

About Negley, Ott &
Associates, Inc. |
| NOA was formed in 1992 by
IS professionals with a desire to provide hospital information system
and clinical professionals with best demonstrated practices in
conjunction with implementing clinical software systems that focus on
patient care. The issues, personalities, opportunities, challenges and
solutions required by clinical system implementations require the
ability to meld sensitivity to clinical processes with the realities of
computing and patient care delivery. To date, NOA has provided services
to over 60 hospitals installing clinical systems using an approach that
stresses both outcomes and knowledge transfer. Supporting so many users,
both during and after their installation, gives NOA the opportunity to
understand the issues that make clinical systems work, and those that
don't. |
