December 2004: Negley, Ott & Associates, Inc.'s
Cynthia Herold, Stacie Barrow and Dar Sabatino implement
automated Ambulatory Surgery Processing at the
Queens Health Network.
With the support of NOA’s Cynthia Herold,
MT (ASCP), Stacie Barrow and Dar Sabatino, R.N., the
Queens Hospital Center, a member of the
Queens Health Network and the New York Health and Hospitals Corporation
went live with automated, on-line Ambulatory Surgery Processing. The
hospital’s Registration/Financial system does not support the creation
of “pending” visits, so in the past, patients scheduled for ambulatory
surgery could not be registered until the day they arrived for their
procedure. Since the visits were not created until the day the patient
arrived, all pre-op orders were done on a paper based record. This often
caused delays due to the lack of communication between departments,
particularly pharmacy where medications need to be verified before being
dispensed.
.
The project involved leveraging the Patient1® (Misys CPR™/ Misys CPOE™)
via customized configuration to allow “pending” ambulatory surgery
visits. This made it possible for orders to be placed prior to the day
of surgery and resulted in a new automated process which was much more
efficient. Now when the patient arrives, the visit is activated through
the registration system and all orders automatically become active.
This go-live event is another significant accomplishment for
Queens Hospital Center and the Queens Health
Network.
Congratulations to New York City Health
and Hospital Corporation, Queens Health Network
and NOA's project team for a successful deployment! This
deployment is another example of how NYCHHC continues to demonstrate
quality and excellence towards community health by using the Misys CPR™
/ Misys CPOE™ integrated electronic health record.
