May 2004:

Jewish Home and Hospital Lifecare System Deploys Pharmacy Module and PPS Orders

The Jewish Home and Hospital Lifecare System (JHH), New York City, NY -- May, 2004 -- JHH continues to make significant strides towards a computerized patient care system via use of the Misys-CPR™ / Misys-CPOE™ (formerly: Patient1®) system and by leveraging NEGLEY, OTT & ASSOCIATES, INC. (NOA) to provide consulting and project management support. Thus far the primary focus of the project has been on deployment of the pharmacy module applications and PPS orders.

The project management support provided by NOA's Donna Welsh, RT, combined with the knowledge and experience of the JHH clinical analyst team has been a real success. The progress thus far since the project began in February 2004 represents a significant accomplishment by The Jewish Home and Hospital Lifecare System.

As of May 2004, JHH’s recent CPR accomplishments have been centered around the following milestones:

  • Deployment of Pharmacy module applications using the Vista GUI across 12 of the planned 23 Nursing Units at the Bronx Facility which includes:

    • An updated version of the Medication Administration Record (MAR)

    • A Treatment Administration Record (TAR)

NOTE: By providing for a clearly printed copy of the MAR/TAR there is a reduced amount of order transcription taking place; therefore reducing the potential for transcription errors.

  • In conjunction with the Pharmacy Rollout, JHH has also been deploying PPS Orders (orders for wound care, treatments, diets, etc.). This initiative also began in Feb 2004 and is targeting mid-June 2004 for a completion date.

  • Other initiatives in progress at the JHH Bronx facility include the automation of MDS Schedules via entering the MDS orders in the CPR. By leveraging the CPR system, the schedules for the Admission as well as Quarterly & Annual Assessments can be viewed on-line by the RAUM and nursing personnel which represents a significant enhancement to the care delivery process.

Congratulations to The Jewish Home and Hospital Lifecare System for continuing to demonstrate quality and excellence towards community health by using the Misys CPR™ / Misys CPOE™ (Patient1®) system as an integrated electronic health record.
