Generations+, Manhattan, NY
-- March 2004 --
Negley, Ott & Associates, Inc. (NOA)
consultant, Joe Barone, MT(ASCP), recently completed a
project to develop and deploy specific applications within the Misys-CPR /CPOE™ system
to aid in greater corporate compliance for the Gen+ emergency
department(s). Gen+ Hospital is one of the facilities of the New
York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (NYCHHC).
The overall project goal was to address EMTALA (Emergency Medical
Treatment and Labor Act) regulations. This was accomplished
via development of system based functionality to support timely
screening examinations on medical conditions at triage as well as
ensuring the necessary stabilizing treatment or appropriate transfer of
patients via several system features. Joe Barone's consultation
efforts were part of a team approach comprised of NOA and Gen+
personnel. Gen+ went live in March 2004 with the new
functionality, which greatly improved work flow as well as compliance
with federal EMTALA regulations. The EMTALA regulations relate to
Medicare participating hospitals that treat patients with emergency
conditions who present to the hospital.
The go-live included new GUI functionality
with redesigned desktops to facilitate in simplifying the workflow
process in the E.D. necessary for EMTALA compliance. The
additional applications developed by Joe Barone and the Gen+ team are as
follows:
-
Criteria based auto generation of
-
Initial Assessments
-
Progress Notes
-
Disposition Assessments
-
Criteria based automated identification of
required care provider documentation appropriate for the patient
-
Creation of an electronic Emergency
Department Whiteboard which provides updated patient tracking and visual
prompts for efficient care delivery based on criteria
-
Automated Pre-discharge check list
designed to assure EMTALA compliance prior to the patient's discharge or
transfer from the Emergency Department
This go-live event is another significant
accomplishment for Generations+ Hospital and represents continue
achievement towards improvement in community health.
Congratulations to Northern Manhattan Healthcare Network and NOA's Joe
Barone for a successful deployment! This deployment is another
example of how NYCHHC continues to demonstrate
quality and excellence towards community health by using the Patient1®
/ Misys CPR™ / Misys CPOE™ integrated electronic health record.
