In
October 2003, Holland Community Hospital in Holland, Michigan engaged
the services of Negley, Ott & Associates, Inc. (NOA) to perform a
comprehensive information security assessment for purposes of mitigating
risks and regulatory compliance. Based on the need to have a compressive
assessment involving both policy / procedure as well as technical
considerations addressed, NOA engaged the services of Amsador, LTD. This
alliance was arranged between NOA and Amsador, LTD in order to augment
NOA’s best-demonstrated practices consulting services with extensive
expertise in business continuity planning. NOA’s Rod Walker and Amsador
LTD’s Gerry Printz conducted an on-site assessment of six systems plus
operational areas in addition to the information systems department as
part of the assessment. The assessment included clinical systems,
financial systems, human resource systems, patient accounting systems,
credentialing systems and quality management systems, which represent a
very large scope of systems requiring an extensive analysis. As part of
the assessment, audits were performed of systems, operational area
practices and policies/procedures in order to conduct a comprehensive
analysis of strengths and weaknesses.
Holland Community Hospital has achieved a very advanced stage of
information technologies within their operational areas and this can be
seen with their extensive use of the Misys CPR® and Misys CPOE® (aka:
Per-Se Technologies, Inc. Patient1®) system which is an integrated care
delivery system. Maintaining a best-demonstrated practices approach with
all systems is essential to protecting patient information and is a
primary reason for this assessment. Holland Community Hospital is
commended for their progressive and serious approach to safeguarding
protective healthcare information.

About Negley, Ott &
Associates, Inc. |
| NOA was formed in 1992 by
IS professionals with a desire to provide hospital information system
and clinical professionals with best demonstrated practices in
conjunction with implementing clinical software systems that focus on
patient care. The issues, personalities, opportunities, challenges and
solutions required by clinical system implementations require the
ability to meld sensitivity to clinical processes with the realities of
computing and patient care delivery. To date, NOA has provided services
to over 40 hospitals installing clinical systems using an approach that
stresses both outcomes and knowledge transfer. Supporting so many users,
both during and after their installation, gives NOA the opportunity to
understand the issues that make clinical systems work, and those that
don't. For more
